Description

Join us for an enthralling evening of conversation and writing with A.S. Byatt, Urvashi Butalia and Maja Hrgovic at the launch of Granta Magazine's The F Word edition.

All three authors will read from their work and discuss feminism in the 21st Century and women in writing with Granta Deputy Editor, Ellah Allfrey OBE.

A.S. Byatt, the feted author of  Booker winning Possession, and The Children’s Book has often spoken of “feeling, when you’re a woman, that you start with one hand tied behind your back”. Sit back and enjoy  her piece ‘No Grls Alod. Insept Mom.’ which lays bare the sexism of 1960s academia.

Byatt will be joined by exciting new voices Urvashi Butalia and Maja Hrgovic.  Urvashi Butalia is co-founder of India’s first feminist publisher Kali for Women. She writes about Mona, a male-to female transsexual in India who discovers all the obstacles of her adopted sex. Maja Hrgovic is a Croatian writer whose story ‘Zlatka’ is an exhilarating tale of an hedonistic and memorable evening shared by two women.

The Times describes Granta as ‘arguably, the most influential magazine in the English-speaking world.’ Come and find out why in the company of some great writers.
