Description

Tickle your funny bone with Ian McEwan. Yes really.

Ian McEwan has got a new book out, Solar, and extracts from the work in progress had the Norwich audience in gales of laughter last year. So why not come along to our event as part of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival and in celebration of Norwich’s bid to become a UNESCO City of Literature, and find out why McEwan is lauded as one of our greatest living writers.

McEwan, who brought us Atonement, Saturday and On Chesil Beach, will start the evening reading to you from his completed 11th novel. You’ll find that Solar tackles the weighty theme of climate change through an increasingly rotund and accident-prone character – Michael Beard.

McEwan will be then be interviewed about the development of the novel and his thoughts on climate change, literature and Norwich by Professor Jon Cook. After that we’ll open the floor so you can ask any questions you may have yourself.

McEwan has enjoyed a long relationship with Norwich, and so it’s appropriate that he join Writers’ Centre Norwich and the Festival at UEA to celebrate Norwich’s bid to become a UNESCO City of Literature, an award which will enable writers, reading and writing to prosper further in our city and region.

We look forward to seeing you there.
