The Next Stage

Escalator Live Literature Showcase

Norwich Arts Centre, Friday 8th May 2009, 8-10pm, Tickets: £5 on the door or through Norwich Arts Centre website.

“It’s a guilty pleasure watching people’s faces when they see our acts and realise that poetry isn’t all about long, serious recitals in a dusty library. This is poetry for everyone. It reaches out and makes them laugh, think, feel. Sometimes sneeze. But never yawn.’” Tim Clare

On Friday 8th of May, our five bright talents from the world of live literature will be presenting 20 minute extracts of their work in The Next Stage, a unique event taking place as part of the Norwich and Norfolk Festival.

Tim Clare, Helen Mort, Molly Naylor, Dean Parkin and Hannah Walker are all displaying the fruits of their year as Escalator Literature winners, where they were mentored by stars of the spoken word scene and supported with Grants For The Arts bids and professional development workshops.

Find out more about the Escalator winners.

On the night you can expect to see a showcase of diverse performances including Tim Clare’s piece exploring his quest to discover performance’s lost innocence in the underground world of the open mic night, and Molly Naylor’s Let There Be Glamour, a humourous, confessional exploration of her twenties, set against a backdrop of classic films.

Industry professionals will be in attendance at the event, which promises to be an entertaining and exciting glimpse into what these artists can do, and is not to be missed.

Music fans should also note that The Next Stage will also feature two nights of Escalator music talent, so if you’re into finding out the next big thing first, then why not come to all three evening events (find out more at the Norwich Arts Centre website).
