‘There is the inner life [...] which goes on all the time, consciously or unconsciously, like the heart beat’ –
Ted Hughes.

Aldeburgh Poetry Festival founder and TS Eliot Prize shortlisted poet Michael Laskey, examines the process of writing one’s self into poetry. Including close readings of contemporary poetry and writing exercises for poets looking to develop in their field.

Michael Laskey has lived in Suffolk for over thirty years. He founded the Aldeburgh Poetry Festival in 1989 and directed it through its first decade, stepping down as chairman last year.  He also founded the poetry magazine Smiths Knoll and has co-edited it since 1991. Active as a workshop leader, he teaches in schools and works with a wide variety of adults groups.

His first two collections were Poetry Book Society Recommendations: Thinking of Happiness and The Tightrope Wedding, which was also shortlisted for the T S Eliot Prize. His third Permission to Breathe was followed in 2008 by The Man Alone: New & Selected Poems.
