Reykjavik designated UNESCO City of Literature status

The city of Reykjavik (Iceland) has been awarded UNESCO City of Literature status, becoming the fifth city to do so, joining Edinburgh, Melbourne, Iowa City and Dublin.
Our congratulations go out to all involved in the bidding process and to a city that rightly deserves recognition for its wonderful literary history alongside its present work ensuring literature has an integral role within the landscape, society and life of its people.
The bid was also noted for demonstrating the city’s commitment to developing support for languages, translation initiatives, international literary exchanges and collaborative approaches to working with publishers, libraries and writers.
Writers’ Centre Norwich is leading the bid for Norwich to become England’s first UNESCO City of Literature, and we look forward to the prospect of connecting with the Creative Cities Network’s latest member.
