Escalator Literature winner 2009: Martin Ungless

Biography:

Martin Ungless was shortlisted for the 2009 Debut Dagger. The judges for the Crime Writers Association thought Idiot Wind, ‘clever and ambitious’, and Barry Forshaw, writing in The Times, praised it as ‘a trenchant novel unafraid to take on contentious issues’.
Brought up in North London, Martin has worked in Cambridge, Edinburgh and Rome, and is currently based in rural Norfolk. In his other lives, Martin has been an award winning architect, a university lecturer, and a freelance creative. He also knows lots about quantum physics.
Martin is represented by Rachel Calder of The Sayle Literary Agency.

‘Fact is, Billy were givin me a whole diffnt sorta vibe. He were showin me a great mouthful a them big white teeth a his, in pure celebration of us gettin ourselves some dosh together, and he were rockin his head about with the zombie-fyin normous pleasure of it all. Looked like a skinny Stevie Wonder he did. All that jiggin were makin his big afro bounce round, like some fat bird runnin fer a bus.’
