Description

'I am convinced that while we may tire of brasher voices, Mimi Khalvati’s work will endure.' – Moniza Alvi, Poetry Wales

To cut, or not to cut, that is the question!

If you wondered whether that poem was really finished, or are struggling to decide whether to leave out that initial stanza then come along and make the most of Poetry School founder, poet and teacher Mimi Khalvati’s knowhow.

This workshop is an excellent opportunity to discuss your drafts and final versions with a poetic expert. Throughout the day you will see examples of poems in draft, comparing them with the finished work. You will discuss approaches to developing your poems, and work on practical exercises using your own work in progress.

If anyone knows about the process of re-visioning and redrafting poems, it’s Mimi. Her prolific writing has seen her produce what for some would be a lifetime’s work, with The Meanest Flower, published by Carcanet in 2007 being a Poetry Book Society Recommendation, a Financial Times Book of the Year, and shortlisted for the TS Eliot Prize.

So come along and acquire some invaluable feedback from both Mimi and the group, and learn how redrafting can not only sharpen, but completely revise your work.
