In April, Writers' Centre Norwich held a poetry salon coordinated by Kate Griffin, also of the British Centre for Literary Translation. The featured poets work in translation, or are translators who also write poetry. We've collected recordings of the readings and a gallery of photographs (above).

The readings were astoundingly varied: featuring among them translations from Basque (the oldest language in Europe), musical language and song, a late-night prompted feat of memorisation, and poems written especially for the occasion. Click the play button on links beneath to stream recordings.

Usha Rajagopalan is a published writer in various genres who translates from Tamil:

Vasanthi Sankaranarayanan is a freelance journalist, translator and researcher who translates from Malayalam to English.

Antoinette Fawcett is completing a Ph.D. in Literary Translation:

The event finished up with Amaia Gabantxo, a literary translator, writer and critic whose work has been published in the US, the UK, Spain and Ireland.

Recorded at the Norwich Arts Centre, April 2011 by Digital and Media Officer Edward Cottrell - this position was made possible by the DCMS Jerwood Creative Bursaries Scheme.
