Writing the Zeitgeist: Workshop and One-to-One with Henry Sutton
Saturday 6th March 2010│10am – 5pm│Writers’ Centre Norwich, 14 Princes Street, Norwich│£50 / £40 conc.
Are you keen to write about the great contemporary themes of our age? Would you like some feedback on your approach?
Then take advantage of this opportunity to have your work intimately discussed and analysed by novelist, journalist and critic Henry Sutton, whose next novel deals with the very topical credit crunch.
Through a morning workshop session and an afternoon one-to-one, Henry will use his considerable writing know-how to guide you through the decisions you have to make when addressing the contemporary within your novel.
What are the underlying anxieties and obsessions of our age? More importantly, how do you get these themes into your work without sounding dated, or as if you are not simply jumping on a bandwagon?
You will discuss these issues and more in the morning workshop and take part in some writing exercises. Then, having submitted your manuscript earlier, in the afternoon you will take part in a one-to-one half hour session where Henry will give careful feedback on how the contemporary is being addressed in your own fiction.
Henry’s six novels have covered contemporary issues from politics to pop culture. He works as Books Editor of the Daily Mirror, and regularly contributes to the Independent On Sunday. So do take full advantage of his critical eye and knowledge of contemporary culture and sign up to discover how to write the zeitgeist.
