Is the pen really mightier than the sword?

Sharpen yours and take on Goliath in this poetry workshop looking at Psalm 151, and then create your own version.

King David comes in the shape of the director of the International Writing Program at The University of Iowa, Christopher Merrill, whose four collections of poetry include Brilliant Water, and Watch Fire, for which he received the Peter I. B. Lavan Younger Poets Award from the Academy of American Poets.

Christopher will help you examine ways in which poets as diverse as Walt Whitman, Saint-John Perse, and Czeslaw Milosz have employed the poetic forms of the Psalms. Then you’ll pick up the mantel and write your own version of Psalm 151.

David cut off Goliath's head with the Philistine's own sword – find out if your pen has what it takes!
