Are you a fiction writer looking to move into the promised land of teen fiction?

Are you already tackling the genre but need help re-orientating yourself in a fast-paced environment?

Join children's publishing experts Andrea Reece and Martin West and discover the latest market trends and the writing techniques that you’ll need to succeed.

About the Workshop
Andrea and Martin, who have years of experience as publishing consultants, editors and tutors, will take you through three key stages.

The Market
You’ll begin the day looking at who the current top sellers are, and why. Andrea and Reece’s vast publishing experience will help you understand what publishers mean by YA fiction and who they are targeting. You’ll discover what the UK and European publishers are looking for and their predictions of the next big thing - vampires versus zombies, love in space and "high concept" stories.

You’ll be given a reading list and will do some market research too, checking out local bookshops and libraries, and maybe even talking to teens!

Writing for Teens
This session will look at cover content and subject matter. Using writing exercises and group discussion you’ll work on voice, creation of character and will learn to avoid the pitfalls of ‘cool’. Find out what the boundaries are, such as what you can write for teens, and the importance of pace.

By the end you’ll have a useful do's and don't list (while stressing that the first rule is there are always exceptions to everything resembling a rule!).

Engaging with your Readership
These days, it's not enough to be a great writer. Publishers are looking for ‘promotable authors’. You’ll be shown how authors have successfully promoted themselves and their book using social media and, crucially, you’ll be given practical advice to forge ahead with.

Book your place – this workshop will book up as fast as well written teen fiction sells!
